Activities

With so much to do, you need never be bored in Washington. More likely, you will run down the clock before doing all you want. Whether joining fellow students in CIW's organized social outings, enjoying the enticements of your Dupont neighborhood, or exploring the full extent of the capital region, you'll exhaust yourself before you exhaust the city.

At CIW, we try to make sure that--even short on time--you'll get the chance to sample from the bounty; so we arrange a series of opportunities for our students:

  • plays and concerts offering student group discounts
  • games, performances, and tours where individual tickets are a tough buy
  • events in conjunction with the Cornell Club of Washington
  • lectures, talks, and meetings with prominent Washington actors
  • special YMCA memberships

Any attempt to experience the Washington region fully, like:

  • visiting all its art museums and galleries
  • taking day trips, say to Annapolis for sailing or the Blue Ridge for camping
  • biking to every Presidential memorial
  • following a passion for jazz

will require effort on your own, but CIW can provide some general DC Links to help you navigate your best course.

The YMCA Special Membership Offer

The National Capital YMCA offers CIW students a special rate for membership, with a large break on dues. Students are allowed Young Adult Fitness Center membership for the period they are here in Washington, starting the day you arrive at the Center.

The Y is located at 1711 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, about ten minutes walk from the Center.
