Academics

Studying in small classes at the Cornell University Wolpe Center with Cornell faculty, you can earn 12-16 Cornell credits. The program is available, both fall and spring semesters, to juniors and seniors in any major in any Cornell college.

Core courses
When you apply, you will choose one of two study options:

The core courses offer you the chance to take advantage of the rich research resources of the Washington area as you learn how to do original research on a topic of your choosing.

With the help of the professor teaching the core courses, and a tutor who will work with you one on one, you will:

choose your research topic
design your own original research
gather information and analyze it
produce a final paper, a copy of which you will proudly display for years to come

Elective courses
Each semester, you can choose one or two of the five to ten elective courses offered by the Program.

Science Policy in the US
History of Washington Architecture
Social Policy and Social Welfare
International Economics
Race, Class and the American City
International Law
Global Tensions: Institutions and Actors in the International Development Arena
Ethnicity, Race, Religion and Health Policy in the United States
Financial Economics
Economic Analysis of the Welfare State

Cornell Urban Scholars in Washington Program
Students participating in the Cornell Urban Scholars in Washington Program take a unique, required class on social justice and urban issues that focuses on Washington, DC.
