Public Policy

As the nation's capital, Washington provides opportunities to work for the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the federal government, for the National Committees of the Republican and Democratic Parties, for policymakers in every area of policy--both domestic and foreign, for think tanks of every political stripe, and for countless groups of lawyers, lobbyists, activists, and interest groups. A few examples of possible externships in public policy are:
  • Brookings Institution, Governmental Studies Program
  • Children's Defense Fund, Violence Protection
  • Democratic National Committee, Office of the Executive Director
  • Department of Defense, Office of the Undersecretary for Policy, International Security Affairs
  • Environmental Protection Agency, Brownfields Program
  • Federal Trade Commission, Division of Advertising Practices
  • National Council for Urban Economic Development
  • Scowcroft Group: a consulting firm headed by former National Security Advisor, Brent Scowcroft
  • Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ)
  • The Stern Group: a consulting firm headed by former International Trade Commission Chair, Paula Stern
  • White House, Office of the Counsel to the President
  • The Wilderness Society
