Health Care

The National Institutes of Health are the single largest source of health care-related research in the country. The Department of Veterans Affairs administers the single largest chain of hospitals in the country. The Department of Health and Human Services sets policies governing Medicare and Medicaid, deeply affecting health care finances. And several major hospitals, clinics, independent research centers, and interest groups focus on health care issues locally, nationally, and even globally. A few examples of possible externships related to health care are:
  • Alliance for Health Reform
  • American Association for World Health
  • American Psychiatric Association, Office of Research, Practice Research Network
  • Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary, Planning and Evaluation, Health Policy
  • Georgetown University Medical Center, Department of Family Medicine
  • National Cancer Institute, Molecular Pharmacology
  • Physicians for Social Responsibility, Environment and Health
  • Society for the Advancement of Women's Health Research
  • U.S. Army, Healthcare Facilities Planning Agency
  • National Institute of Mental Health, Mood and Anxiety Disorders Research Branch
