Life at the Center
Imagine the essential services of the Cornell campus condensed into a single four-story building and dropped smack into the exciting core of the nation’s capital. That’s the Cornell University Wolpe Center.
What is student life like at CIW? Well, think Cornell IN Washington. At times, life here may seem quite similar to life in Ithaca; but at many other times, it’ll seem a lot different! And differences can matter.
- If you’re finding Cornell’s campus too big but Ithaca too small
- If you’re ready to graduate all the way up from "a college kid" to "a twenty-something"
- If you could acclimate yourself to ten academic months of: Summer, Fall, Fall, Fall, Winter, Winter, Winter, Spring, Spring, Summer rather than Rain, Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter, Winter, Rain
- If you could adjust to once-a-week classes reached by express rides down the elevator rather than tri-weekly classes reached by trudges up Libe slope
- If you think the Hot Truck may have exhausted its culinary diversity
- If you ever hoped "Please, is there just one person alive who would be willing to cut through all this Day Hall red tape for me?"
- If you could sacrifice one burning dragon for 100,000 floating cherry blossoms
- If you’re willing to give the National Symphony a try even though you love the Big Red Band
- If you’d like to know your teachers better, and the occasional visit during open office hours doesn’t cut it
- If you’d forego running into old friends in Collegetown to make new friends for running around Georgetown
Then now’s your big chance. If interested in this life, consider living it. The Cornell University Wolpe Center is located at 2148 O Street, NW, Washington, DC 20037.
In our residential college, you and your academic tutors occupy twenty-seven apartments on the upper three floors, so everybody meets and gets acquainted rather quickly. The first floor holds most facilities, including for academic, administrative, and social purposes, so assistance is close at hand. It’s Cornell, but in a small and cozy version. We schedule a lot of activities together. The vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood is just out the front door, with the rest of this great capital city, beckoning you to experience all of Washington, just minutes beyond.
