Housing

The Cornell University Wolpe Center at 2148 O Street, NW is a residential college, where you and your tutors live together.

The residential units consist of two types of apartments: two person studios, and three person one bedrooms. All apartments are supplied with basic utilities and are well equipped with furniture.

Each apartment contains:

  • a separate bathroom
  • a full kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven/broiler, and sink/disposal; but no dishwasher, microwave, or toaster
  • independently operated heating/air conditioning units
  • a data port for every student, allowing direct computer connection to Cornell and the Internet
  • a single port for cable television hook-up

Apartment furnishings, depending on the type of apartment--studio (or one bedroom)--include:

  • bunkable beds; beds in some bedroom apartments are extra-long for taller students
  • dressers
  • reading chairs
  • desks
  • a table
  • a bookshelf
  • desk, table, and floor lamps

You are responsible for providing certain items:

  • bedding, linens, pillows, and towels
  • pots, pans, dishes, and utensils
  • shower curtains
  • waste baskets, dish racks, cleaning materials, and such things of personal use

Students in the past have brought other accessories, like:

  • microwave ovens or toasters
  • stereos and televisions
  • irons and ironing boards
  • vacuums or sweepers

Before bringing everything: PLAN! Students often bring too much. Consultation with roommates can prevent duplication of many items.

To occupy an apartment, each student resident must, upon arrival, sign a contractual agreement with the University to abide by all stipulated rules and regulations. The Center follows the laws of the District of Columbia and the guidelines of Cornell University.
