For FA13: Now that you've checked out the program and think it is for you, we have made it convenient to apply on line.
Applications are due March 9th for the fall.
In addition to the application, you must turn in three more things:
You can email the Statement of Interest as an attachment (MS Word or text file only, please.) Print off a hard copy of the letter of recommendation which you can hand to your professor or get your professor to send an email recommendation. All emails should be addressed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Not sure how to write the Statement of Interest--here are some guidelines:
In one page, provide a description of a topic which you might like to research while you are in Washington. Give an idea of what you already know, what the central questions are, and how you might begin to answer these questions through original research. You are not expected to have a detailed research proposal: you will learn how to prepare that in Washington. You are not expected to know the answers to questions: that is the point of the research in DC. And you are not bound to research this particular area when you go to Washington.
Instructions for CUSP applicants: The Cornell Urban Scholars Program statement of interest should include an essay on your notion of social justice with a general statement on the current trends and conditions, and a longer essay describing the knowledge, skills and abilities you would bring to an urban social justice issues internship and how you expect to benefit personally and professionally from this experience. Note that CUSP is only offered in the spring.
