APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR SP10 HAS BEEN EXTENDED -- ACT NOW!

**** **** ****

Now you've checked out the program and think it is for you, we have made it convenient to apply on line.

Applications are accepted until mid October for the spring semester program and mid March for the fall.

In addition to the application, you must turn in three more things:

  • a Statement of Interest (a one page essay on what you might research while in Washington,)
  • a transcript,
  • and a letter of recommendation from a Professor or graduate TA who knows your work well.
  • ILR students should attach a note indicating that Professor Clete Daniel has been informed of this application. There is no restriction on ILR students participating in the Cornell in Washington Program.

You can email the Statement of Interest as an attachment (MS Word or text file only, please.) Print off a hard copy of the letter of recommendation which you can hand to your professor or get your professor to send an email recommendation. All emails should be addressed to cwash@cornell.edu.

Not sure how to write the Statement of Interest -- here are some guidelines:

In one page, provide a description of a topic which you might like to research while you are in Washington. Give an idea of what you already know, what the central questions are, and how you might begin to answer these questions through original research. You are not expected to have a detailed research proposal: you will learn how to prepare that in Washington. You are not expected to know the answers to questions: that is the point of the research in DC. And you are not bound to research this particular area when you go to Washington.
